Erythromycin ethylsuccinate
Indications/Uses
Infections due to susceptible organisms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1 g daily bd-qds. Severe infections: 2-4 g daily. Childn 30-50 mg/kg daily; doubled in severe infections; 2-8 yr 1 g daily in divided doses; <2 yr 500 mg daily in divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to macrolides.
Special Precautions
Hepatic impairment.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, suprainfections, sensitisation to erythromycin, skin reactions, reversible deafness.
Drug Interactions
Carbamazepine, cyclosporin, theophylline, warfarin, terfenadine, astemizole.
